Jane Elliot’s “Blue Eyes vs Brown Eyes” experiment was nothing short of shocking to me. In the beginning, she split her third grade class up into two groups: brown eyes and blue eyes. One day, she explained how the blue eyed students were better, the other day, how the brown eyed students were better. I couldn’t believe how quickly those children began to discriminate against their classmates because of eye color. After a short amount of time, it became clear how biased the brown eyed people were toward the blue eyed people. The rules were the children with blue eyes could go for seconds at lunch unlike the brown eyes. Also they couldn't play with the playground equipment. It made them realize how it felt to be treated in a different way and how the black people felt. I think even though they had this experiment they would still be racists because of the people around them and how they treat black people. It was a successful experiment; they learnt that there is difference to be blue or brown eyed. Also they teach other children by this experiment.

UAE Culture Reflection
Reflection:
In this video, I learned many things such as: our country is well known among all nations, and our country maintains its heritage till now and uses it. The second thing I learned is that the United Arab Emirates attracts tourists and treats them well. The United Arab Emirates has some unique things that make it more beautiful than some countries for tourism. Heritage of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is available in the museums and in some old areas in the state. The United Arab Emirates have a very rich and ancient culture that has undergone some significant changes since the discovery of petrol in the 1970's. Today the United Arab Emirates are made up of a unique cultural jumble somewhere between ancestral traditions and state-of -the-art technology. There are a large number of people who are strangers in the United Arab Emirates and this affects the local people in the state.

Glossary
Culture: the shared values, history, customs etc of a people.
Diversity: differences e.g. race, gender, economic status, religion etc.
Cultural diversity: a multicultural society where it is understood that each individual is different re. race, gender, economic status, religion, physical abilities etc. When this occurs we have social harmony i.e. peaceful co-existence of people from different backgrounds. In such a society there will be cross-cultural communication, where people from differing backgrounds can communicate and avoid conflicts and can even adopt aspects of other cultures i.e. acculturation. In this type of society there will be a widely-shared belief in human rights, basic freedoms which belong to all people regardless of colour, language, religion etc.
Bias: If you are biased it means you have an idea that someone or something is superior to another for no logical reason. It is similar to prejudice, e.g. racial prejudice in apartheid South Africa.
Culture shock: This is when you find aspects of another culture so different from your own.
Demographics: The study of the population and its component parts.
Discrimination: There was racial discrimination in apartheid South Africa. N.B. blue eyes v brown eyes.
Ethnic group: It's a group which shares similar race, religion, language, whatever.
Ethnocentricity: It's looking at the world from your own ethnic point of view; it implies that your ethnicity is superior.
Expatriate: Someone from one country living and often working in another; not a tourist, not a businessman on a short visit.
